Revolutions sometimes happen without our noticing. They slowly build over time, after little things begin shifting into place into something bigger. And then, quietly, it's here. There was a before and now there's an after. The mental landscape, the way things are organized and how the culture is moving have changed.
With his 12th album in his 25-year career, Canadian musician Poirier takes things a step further and expands his vision and craft with clarity. “Quiet Revolution” offers a comforting and intimate vibe where electronic and acoustic music fuse in a timeless way thanks to Poirier's delicate touch and arrangements. A sort of renewal in consistency, as he keeps the same mindset that guided him on his last album “Soft Power”; carry a specific emotion without superfluity. To describe his new album, Poirier says “it's the music of crossing paths”.
Tracks “Minha Liberdade” with Flavia Nascimento and “Mi Só” with Ely Swares transport the listener to Brazil and to the shores of Cabo Verde while both “Cantándote” with Jimena Angel and “Agua Oro” with Ramon Chicharron bring the vibe of Colombia. Sounds of West Africa radiates from “Wili”, fusing tradition and Afro House with Malian singer Djely Tapa. Party's on with the uptempo funky “Paid Our Dues” with Montrealer Paul Cargnello and when it’s time to slow down and cuddle up, “Tout doux” with Jérôme Minière sets the mood. The reflective and nostalgic "El Tiempo Pasa" closes the album. Yes, time and music pass, like quiet revolutions.
Poirier is a prolific, creative and eclectic Canadian musician / producer who released his first album in 2001. Constant in his albums and DJ performances is a desire to build bridges between different languages, communities, and cultures. He now has produced a total of 12 albums with labels such as Ninja Tune and Wonderwheel Recordings. Active in Montreal, his successful dance party Qualité de Luxe has been active for more than 10 years. Poirier is also the man behind Bounce le Gros and Karnival, legendary parties in Montreal nightlife history. Recently, he made music for contemporary dance show “Rhapsodie” by Montreal-based company Sylvain Émard Danse. He’s currently composing the music for Émard's next choreography, “Les champs magnétiques”. Poirier also gives workshops about music, sharing his vision and experience to help other musicians express themselves to their full potential.
