Sonic Boom Music is a staple of the music scene in Canada, as the country’s largest independent record store. Since 2001, when we first opened in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood, we’ve been known for our impressive selection of new and used records, CDs, DVDs, and cassettes.
Though our address may have changed a few times, from our start in the Annex to the iconic Honest Ed’s building in 2011, to a small shop in colourful Kensington Market and now our stand-alone two level home in the heart of Chinatown, our music loving spirit and old school charm have come with us each step of the way.
Always wanting to share the love with our customers and community, Sonic Boom has hosted in-store performances in each location, some memorable guests include: Broken Social Scene, The Sadies, Angel Olsen, Superchunk, Mac Demarco, Ty Segall, METZ, Sloan, Inbreds, and many more. Check out our events page for upcoming listings.
Our store may look a bit different from our debut 19 years ago. We have expanded to not only carry the best in music and movies (with hundreds of newly received used titles put out daily), we now provide a selection of turntables, speakers, lifestyle/home products, band t-shirts and more, but this doesn’t mean our mandate is any different.
At Sonic Boom we strive to create an atmosphere of respect, where all are welcome, and no music lover leaves disappointed. Just like we have carried this with us from each of our homes, we are excited to bring these standards to our new space in the online world.
