D’Angelo and The Vanguard graced the Paradiso stage no less than five times, a legendary run that might just be a world record. With three shows in 2012 and two in 2015 these nights left a permanent mark on our collective memory. This  32-page zine takes a deep dive into those historic concerts and the journey that led to them after a twelve year absence. We sat down with Mark Jenkins, D’Angelo’s personal coach, to discuss the struggles of that period and the resilience behind the comeback. But we also dig deeper into the sound itself. It is not just spiritual but also intellectual. We asked leading Dutch musicians Dillon Lewis and Yasper Molle how a trained ear listens to the genius behind the groove.
